Student Work
I believe art education is essential to the development of thoughtful, purposed, and well-rounded humans. The arts are a critical cornerstone of creative thinking, personal expression, and an examination of the world around us. They give us the ability to communicate meaningfully and explore significant topics. However, this must be coupled with the genuine development of historical and contemporary skills.
My teaching practice is grounded in the belief that a successful artist is one who can balance artistic skills and self-exploration. As a result, I strive to create a learning environment that not only gives students the ability to use their own creative voice, but the proficiencies needed to form a coherent composition that will resonate with viewers.
Equally important are the character developments that I strive to impart on my students. I believe that creativity and character are deeply connected. To become a successful artist, one must exercise perseverance, humility, respect, and resilience. Students are challenged to work through uncertainty, accept constructive feedback, and accept responsibility for their creative choices. In this way, the classroom becomes a training ground for integrity and self-awareness. I encourage my students to approach their work with intention, craftsmanship, and an understanding that excellence is achieved through effort.
Ultimately, my goal is for students to leave my class with confidence that they can express their artistic voices and approach life with a sense of curiosity, respect, and self-assurance that they can overcome any challenges that await them.
